May 14, 2009
Dear Youth and Youth Supporters,
Lighthouse Outreach, Inc. has openings for 9th – 12th graders to participate in our upcoming FREE abstinence and career/trade preparation program. The Dare to Dream Youth Empowerment Program, an in-depth career/trade preparation program for 9th to 12th graders, is scheduled for June 23- August 13, 2009. The meeting times are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 10am-2pm. It will be held at Lighthouse Outreach, Inc. offices- 2021A Cunningham Dr, Suite #5- Hampton, VA. Snacks will be provided each day.
The Dare to Dream Youth Empowerment Program is designed to help young people determine their own future. The program begins with the “TRUE COLORS” personality test enabling youth to learn more about themselves and how to work more effectively with others. The abstinence training makes use of several curriculums, emphasizing factual information to teach youth the benefits of making good choices to assure a healthier future. “Coin Targets”, a career/trade planning section, explores student interests in specific fields and concludes with sessions on job applications; resume building, and interviews. “Unlocking Your Potential” the final session is directed toward building leadership development and entrepreneurial skills.
All materials, work books and study guides are provided to the program participants at NO COST. The participant need only have an interest in ensuring the success of their future, the support of their parents, and time in their schedule to participate. The program will end with a graduation ceremony that includes a certificate of completion, token gifts and refreshments.
Parents are known to be the most influential person in a young person’s life. To ensure parental support a very important parent orientation will be held prior to the start of the program. Pre and post surveys are administered to assess what students retain from the sessions. Parent permission is requested for youth participating in the surveys. Attached is the Baylor University parent permission form for signature.
